Today, I begin to blog.
There are many voices in this world we live in, and I often feel that my voice is just another voice lost in the void of the web. However, I find it appropriate that my epiphanies are often due (at least in part) to my love of movies and what can be said through them, and today's epiphany is no less. I recently watched two very different films whose messages won't leave my mind. Be forewarned: SPOILERS MAY APPEAR. All humans are inherently creators. It's not just a part of life or something that we do, it's part of who we are. Every sentence we create by vibrating sound. Every written note we create by smashing a pointy stick onto a flat piece of tree muscle and voila, books. Many of us spend a vast amount of time thinking, "If I can convince people that the things I create have value and worth, then I'll be happy. Whatever I do, I must do to better myself towards meaning, happiness, and super important things." When this happens, we're under the tyranny of happiness: always trying, but never actually happy. This is experiencing life rather than letting life give experience. I am one of those people. I have attempted to experience life at its fullest by strategizing and over-analyzing my decisions in order to achieve "the best" or even a "good" decision. This over-analysis eventually finds me curled in a corner behind the couch trying to pretend that the world is a safe place where freedom exists and play-time is every time.
Other times, life throws a proverbial steel ball at me, and before I can successfully dodge it, I find myself inspired in the face. After that, I have one choice. To create, or not? I do not have answers for life's questions. In fact, I am the worst with personal conflict. When I give myself time to write, however, nothing seems to hinder me. That is why I've decided to publish a blog; so that the largest possible compilation of people might see my creations, spreading beauty (or shit, who knows?) far and wide. In conclusion, this blog is the experience of a creator. It is a portfolio, a journal, and a review board of creation. My name is Josh Palmer, and I am Mr. Blog. I often create performance-based art; I will probably talk a lot about that. My mission is to bring joy and clarity through written word, and my vision is to do as dreamers do. May my creations bring you a smile and even a laugh; either at me, with me, for me, or above me. |
